At a time when the economy threatens to devour work, time, peace and the earth, the EdC Convention 2025 ‘Roots of the Future’ invites us to rethink the role of the economy as an opportunity for care, relationships and giving back.
From 23 to 25 May, the Polo Lionello Bonfanti will host three days of meetings, workshops and spaces for dialogue to explore how the economy can generate community and rebuild bonds. In this jubilee year, the theme of the Convention will be the prophecy of the Jubilee, a time when the earth rests, debts are cancelled, and every person regains freedom and justice.
The opening day on 23 May will begin at 10 a.m. with “The Economy I Would Like”, a workshop for dialogue and listening for young people, followed in the afternoon by the EoC S.p.A. Members’ Meeting. At 6 p.m., Massimo Mercati, CEO of Aboca, will officially open the Convention with a reflection on the relationship between economy, environment and care. The day will end at 8:30 p.m. with the theatrical and musical reading ‘The Theft of the Seventh Day – The Biblical Roots of the Jubilee’, with Valentino Borgo and Emanuela Pantano.
24 May will be dedicated to the theme of restitution. The morning will open with economist Luigino Bruni on peace, democracy and the civil market. This will be followed by thematic sessions on ethical finance, civil enterprises, transformative economics and the Social Doctrine of the Church. In the afternoon, there will be the ‘EoC Global Gathering’, an opportunity for international discussion with the International EoC Commission. Matteo Rizzoli and Lucia Marchegiani, economists, will lead the meeting ‘Economics in the family’, to reflect on work as a space for relationships and care. The day will conclude with the presentation of the book ‘La cultura del dono in azienda’ (The Culture of Giving in Business) by Anouk Grevin with Sabrina Bonomi and Ugo Morelli.
The final day, 25 May, entitled ‘Storie di liberazioni’ (Stories of Liberation), will be dedicated to dialogue on credit and social inclusion with Claudia Benedetti (Federcasse) and Gaetano Giunta (MECC). This will be followed by Lucia Capuzzi (Avvenire), Jerome Nibaruta (CASOBU NGO) and Donata Stracquadaini and Salvatore Brullo (Fo.Co. social cooperative), coordinated by Stefania Nardelli, who will share testimonies on migration as an opportunity for inclusion. The day will continue with conclusions and a meeting with EoC Italy.
